Stroke Awareness Talk & Lunch Wednesday, May 3rd at Noon The Gathering Place Coffee Shop Paris Presbyterian Church 127 Steubenville Pike Paris (Burgettstown), PA May is Stroke Awareness Month. We are excited to have Patty Noah, RN MSN, Administrative Director of the Stroke Program at Allegheny General Hospital share the latest information about Stroke prevention and treatment with us. A light lunch will be served before the talk. Patty will tell us how to recognize the signs of a stroke, the latest treatments and share tips on stroke prevention. There will be a question and answer time so you can ask Patty questions you may have concerning stroke prevention and treatment. This event is open to the community and is free. Soul ShopTraining Event Paris Presbyterian Church 127 Steubenville Pike Paris (Burgettstown), PA Thursday, May 11 8:30AM till 4:00PM Soul ShopTM: Ministering to Suicidal Desperation Event Objectives A Soul ShopTM training has four objectives: *Familiarize leaders with the incidence and impact of suicidal desperation on the adults and youth in their communities and beyond. *Train leaders in a simple, conversational method for saving the life of someone considering suicide. *Equip leaders to address suicidal desperation as a regular aspect of their life and work. *Engage leaders in an ongoing, strategic effort to shift the way that communities deal with suicide. The first two objectives are the focus of the 2 to 3 hour morning session; the 3rd and 4th objectives are the focus of the 2 to 3 hour afternoon session.This particular Soul Shop event will be held on Thursday, May, 11, 2017 at the Paris PresbyterianChurch, located at 127 Steubenville Pike, Burgettstown, PA 15021. Registration will be at 8:30 and the workshop will be from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. The cost will be $30 per person and will include lunch. Call 724-729-3450 Monday through Friday to register or go to our website at www.pariseco.net In Soul ShopTM You Will… •Explore the greatest myth regarding suicidal desperation. •Learn how to talk about suicide. •Explore the hidden impact of suicidal desperation on faith communities. •Take a second look at what the Bible has to say about suicide and suicidal thinking. •Learn how to make ministry to the desperate and those who love them a regular aspect of your preaching, teaching and pastoral care. •Think about making your church a community where people navigating the dangerous passages of life find a place where they can reinvent their lives. Anyone can begin thinking about suicide given an accumulation of losses combined with a lack of resources to deal with those losses. While depression is a significant risk factor in suicidal thinking, 40% of those who die by suicide are not clinically depressed at the time. At any given moment, a significant number of persons in a congregation: *Are quietly considering suicide. *Are worried about a family member or close friend who may be considering suicide. *Are suffering from a past loss of someone close who died by suicide. *Have emerged from a significant period in their lives when they were considering suicide.

MARBLE SHOW & FREE APPRAISALS Friday, May 12, 2017 at 6 p.m. The Gathering Place Coffee Shop Paris Presbyterian Church 127 Steubenville Pike Burgettstown, PA 15021 Rick Rine, marble collector and appraiser, will be talking about the history of marbles and how they were made, and showing his great collection of marbles from all the U.S. factories, Germany, and China: Glass, clay, stones, and steelie marbles. He will tell some of his digging stories of many of the 14 marble factories in West Virginia, which was once the marble-making capital of the world. Rick is a member of the West Virginia Marble Collectors Club and the Buckeye Marble Collectors Club in Ohio. He attends marble shows to buy, sell, and trade. He can tell you where your marbles come from and also appraise them. If you lost your marbles, find them and bring them in! She will be discussing her Flora Quinn Mysteries and how she came up with the idea for these books. All of this series takes place in and around the Pittsburgh area. This series is appropriate for adults, teens and ‘tweens. Cindy will have all of her books available to be purchased and signed. Join us for a light lunch and fellowship.
